How many times did you already destroyed your HDMI plug or cable? I don't like the uncertainty that your cable could break any second and disturb your shot or even the whole camera. The team from the Italian company LockCircle, which is known for their DSLR Body caps, released another product in their series: LockPort.

The LockPort ist a small piece of accessories which has a baseplate and a fixed Mini-HDMI plug. It will save your “expensive to repair” Mini-HDMI port on your 5D and 7D camera.

Models

The current LockPort series exists of 4 models. Two of them are made as addition for RedRockMicro rig (one for 5D and one for 7D). The third one is a Universal plate and the fourth model (Available soon) is a Universal plate, which works for the Zacuto Z-Finder.

All models are available in Front or Rear version, which add a full HDMI connection for more security.

Manageability on set

I used my LockPort for all of my last shots. Most of them were shot with my RedRock micro Shoulder Rig, which gives me maximum flexibility and is ideal for one man productions. During the previous shots I often bumped to the Mini-HDMI cables and after a while both broke! There is nothing more annoying than a not working camera kit, especially if it is the only one. After the second cable broke I ordered the LockPort and it works awesome! I use it on my 7D since then and due to the simple design it is working very great. The large HDMI plug won't break unless you use brute force.
If you're using your 5D or 7D in combination with a monitor, I'd strongly suggest to buy one of these kits. Once you break your HDMI plug, when not using this accessory, it'll cost you a lot of money to repair it!
